HELLO, this is me.
the other day...
my kid drew a flower. Okay so it was more like a scribble, but it kinda looked like a flower. She held the crayon full-fisted, like it was a gear shift, as it flew off of the paper and back in in one fell swoop. The look on her face was pure joy. In that moment, she wasn’t thinking about the end result, she just knew that her giant scribble half on the paper, half on my dining room table made a mark, and to her it was exciting. In a way, that same emotion is what got me interested in the world of design. I love being a part of the process of helping people make their own creative mark on the world.
I was introduced to the world of creativity at a young age when I refused to let my mom pick out my outfits for school. Sure it meant me wearing cowboy boots and a beanie on the first day of kindergarten in the 90 degree heat, but to me, all that mattered was that I chose it. In high school I began the search for something a little more involved creatively then mismatching my socks. When forced to take an art class for credit, I immediately knew that art, in whatever form I could find, was it for me.
I later graduated from UC Davis with a degree in Design & Graphic Communication and moved to San Francisco. Building my graphic skills as I went, I landed at Pottery Barn doing layout and production design on their catalog and various creative marketing materials for over 10 years. Pottery Barn gave me the opportunity to blend three of my passions into one career - layout, type design and pretty pictures.
As life got crazier and I found myself surrounded by three sets of little feet (and I mean surrounded all the time), I decided to use all of my past experience, from 9th grade art class and college design lectures to working with all of the amazing creatives at Pottery Barn, to take the next step as a designer and focus on freelancing. For the past seven years I have been privileged to work with wonderful brands such as Bar Method, Framed & Matted, Rocket & Rex, LGEF, the Community Arts Foundation, plus many more. I pride myself on working very closely with my clients to help them create the perfect mark for their business adventures. Who knows where this path will take me, but no matter where I am, I am quick to remind myself why I do what I do. At the end of the day, I really just want to be scribbling madly like my daughter on a piece of paper and maybe a little bit on the table too.
Please take a look at some of my more recent WORK.
